Rialto Certified Farmer’s Market

A visit to a nearby Certified Farmer’s Market located in Rialto CA

Today I got the opportunity to check out the Rialto Certified Farmer’s Market.

The market opens at 10am and runs to 2pm every Wednesday.  I arrive a little after 10am. My first impression upon arriving at the market was the abundance or parking space, making it easy for me to find parking.

I soon noticed the size of the market. It seem relatively small to me compared to other farmers markets I have been to, as well as the amount of people presents. Granted I did arrive right as they opened, so it could be possible that more people would show up later towards noon.

The market place itself was set up in the parking lot right next to Rialto City Hall, and the Clerk’s Office. They also had a small park located near by in case you wanted to enjoy some of the food bought at the market before heading home.

Interesting, they had sign indicating which vendors were certified organic vs the non-certified.

While it did seem to be lacking in the amount of vendors, roughly 15 during my visit, it did have a nice variation of different items. The vendors present ranged from selling your classic fresh fruits and vegetables to a vendors that were selling honey.

You could also find a vendors selling no hormones/no antibiotic fresh eggs as well as one selling hummus.

One vendor that caught my eye was ME PA BE. ME PA BE (whose name derives from the first two letters of the vendor’s three children middle names) sells different types of muffins and breads. She creates her baked goods using unsalted butter, fresh fruits and organic eggs from local farmers.  I myself was able to sample a muffin made from orange, mixed with dark chocolate topped with frosting.

I got the opportunity to ask two nearby patrons there thoughts on the market, Brittany and Paul. As it turns out, it was also their first time visiting the Rialto certified farmer’s market.

“While being small, it still had all the mainstay stands, vendors, and local businesses one expects at every farmers market,” Paul said. Brittany also agreed adding, “While there were only a few vendors, the quality of the produce was good and reasonably priced.” After buying some elote corn and potato tacos, Paul added, “Being a relatively new farmers market operating at somewhat off-hours on a Wednesday, it certainly exceeded my expectations. I look forward to seeing it grow over the coming months and years.”

Speaking with one of the city clerks, I found out that the market started in July 2012, and that all products sold are from nearby local venders. While I do wish the market place was bigger with more venders, the location was easy to find with plenty of parking.  Every vendor I spoke with was very kind and many of them offered samples. If you happen to be in the Rialto city hall area on Wednesday between 10am and 2pm it wouldn’t hurt to stop by.
